How to Apply

The first round of application of MA in Language Studies Programme for the 2021/22 admission intake will be from 4 January to 1 April 2021. We recruit on a rolling basis.

 

Admission Requirement

Applicants should possess:

  • a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or comparable institution, or
  • a qualification deemed to be equivalent.

 

Applicants are expected to have advanced competence in spoken and written English. A good knowledge of other languages (including Chinese) would be an added advantage. If English was not the medium of instruction for the first degree, applicants are required to provide evidence of good English proficiency. At least one of the following minimum scores or standards has been achieved: (i) IELTS (Academic): Overall Band at 6.5; (ii) TOEFL: 550 (Paper-based), 79 (Internet-based); (iii) CET-6 (College English Test band 6): 500; (iv) Grade D in AS Use of English (HKALE); OR (v) Level 4 in English Language (HKDSE). For IELTS, TOEFL and CET6, the standards must be achieved within the 2 years leading up to the time of application. For the 2021/22 admission intake, the recognition of results of two online tests, IELTS Indicator and TOEFL iBT (home edition), will be continued for admission purposes.

Confidential Reference Form

All applicants are required to provide confidential references from two academic referees. If no information of referees can be provided, a reason should be stated in your self-statement for our Admission Selection Panel’s consideration. The University will invite the referees via email to submit online Confidential Reference Form to a designated online platform within two weeks upon the applicant’s successful submission of the application.

To avoid delay in processing the application, applicants are therefore reminded to check the accuracy of the referees' information and follow up with the referees as appropriate for submission of the Confidential Reference Form.

 

Proof of Application Fee Payment

The non-refundable application fee is HK$350 for local applicants, and HK$450 for non-local applicants.

Except for the application fee paid via our online application system, applicants using any payment methods are required to provide the proof of application fee payment. Please check with the Graduate School if you have any questions about application fee payment.
